It’s easy to make loose leaf tea yourself. It would be best to simply have a vessel, some hot water, and tea leaves to make your tea at its most basic level. Here’s our guide on brewing loose leaf tea, whether you need a refresher or you’re learning how to make loose leaf tea for the first time.
It’s simple to make loose leaf tea. There are only five items you’ll need:
Tea Infuser
While you sip, a tea infuser stops the tea leaves from freely floating inside your cup. After all, you don’t want to be chewing on tea leaves while sipping your beverage! It also allows you to set a timer for when the tea should be steeped. That prevents the tea from becoming bitter.
If you wish to use something you can toss away, you can use a disposable paper filter. Otherwise, a basket infuser can be used in your mug or pot. If you take care of them, they will last you a long time. An infuser is included with many of our teapots.
You may use the handy chart to the right to figure out how long you want to steep your tea. Simply remove the infuser once the tea has steeped for the indicated time and leave it away for the second steeping of tea. Did you know that some teas may be re-steeped twice or more?
Process
Something to prepare and drink your tea in, such as a favorite mug or a teapot, is required. To make tea, the infuser is placed in a teapot or tea mug. Tea infusers are included with some teacups and glass tumblers.
To boil water, you’ll need a tea kettle. Kettles that can be used on the stovetop are helpful. Electric kettles heat water more quickly and efficiently. In a pinch, even a simple saucepan will suffice.
All you’ll need now is some organic loose leaf tea. Any loose leaf tea, from purple to pu-erh and everything in between, can be used.
Brewing Instructions for Loose Leaf Tea
- Fill your tea kettle halfway with water and bring to a boil.
- When you’re waiting for your water to boil, fill your tea infuser with a suitable quantity of loose leaf tea. In your teapot or mug, add the tea infuser. When brewing iced tea, double the amount of tea you use.
- Once the water achieves the preferred temperature, pour it into your mug or teapot over the tea infuser. Water will be able to circulate through the leaves as a result of this.
4. Set a timer for your tea. When the timer goes off, drop the infuser in the water a few times to circulate it. Remove the infuser and set it aside to steep again.
5. Pour into a favourite mug or over ice to make a refreshing iced tea.
